Cassie singer: A.K.A Cassie Ventura or just plain “Cassie” as she’s known by her fans was born on August 26, 1986. Cassie is best known for her 2006 break-out song “Me and U.” In addition to singing, Cassie has a career in the film and modeling world. She’s most recently been featured in the hit dance movie “Step-up 2: Take it to the streets.” She currently models for the Urban-American inspired clothing company Sean John.

Cassie (singer) was born in New London, Connecticut to parents with a Mexican, Filipino, and African ancestry. Cassie says she’s always wanted to be in the entertainment industry, and after attending high school at The Williams Preparatory School, Cassie immediately made plans to pursue a singing and modeling career. Although Cassie was only 18 when she graduated from high school, her modeling career was already in full swing. At the age of fourteen, Cassie was signed to the prestigious Wilhelmina Modeling Agency. Her most well-known ads and companies she modeled for included: Abercrombie & Fitch, Adidas, Seventeen Magazine, and the Target retail store.

After high school, Cassie continued to pursue her modeling career but most frequently ran into the music scene and most notably Ryan Leslie. Ryan Leslie was the producer and song writer for Cassie’s first single and break-out hit “Me and U.” After continued collaboration, Cassie and Ryan developed a close business relationship, and after “Me and U” continued to blow up, Cassie (singer) caught the attention of Sean P. Diddy Combs of Bad Boy Records through a make-up artist on one of Cassie’s modeling projects. After reviewing the success and buzz that she created on her own without a record label, Sean Combs took Cassie under the Bad Boy wing to take advantage of Cassie’s growing and immediate rise to stardom.

After being signed to Bad Boy, Cassie’s album launch was rushed in record timing. This caused huge controversy and debate with other Bad Boy female artists, who’s records were in pre-production for years. On the surface, it looked like Cassie’s debut with Bad Boy was a big publicity stunt.

After the album debuted, Cassie went on the road to do a number of live performances. Her most negatively and possibly career-ruining performances were on MTV’s Total Request Live (TRL) and BET’s 106th and Park. On both shows, Cassie’s background singers overshadowed her voice and she was caught lip-syncing off-beat. Label executive Sean Combs was cited as saying, “She had her first television performance, and she had an all right performance.” “You could hear the nervousness in her voice. And to be honest, I kind of smiled at it, because it made me really appreciate what I really love about her: She’s a regular person.”

On the outside looking in, this appeared to be another one of Diddy’s P.R. “shmoozing” tactics to try and cover up his image of perfection and his weak artists. The press immediately dubbed her as a fake-poster girl and one-hit wonder. Thus far, the label seems to be coming true. In the past two years, Cassie has not received another music hit, or anything close to the success of her first song “Me and U.” Unfortunately, that’s not the worst of her current problems. There’s been rumors buzzing that Cassie has been dropped from Bad Boy. Sean P. Diddy Combs expressly denied the accusations, but many people are leary of the the Bad Boy executive and think Bad Boy will ultimately shelf any future projects with the R&B singer.

Cassie’s management team says she’s set to release an album in June of 2008 with super producers Bryan Cox, Pharell Williams, and Kanye West. This news also seems rather skeptical to most, especially under the circumstances of Cassie’s short-lived star light.

It is not yet known, what will happen with Cassie’s music, fashion, or film career. As a fan, you’ve just got to hope for the best. Her performance thus far has been less than sub-par.
